You’ve got a new tattoo… Now what?!

Treat your new tattoo like what it is… a fresh wound! The first few days are the most important in healing your tattoo and will affect how it will look not only after healing, but for the rest of your life. Following proper aftercare instructions is critical. Below are instructions for Bandage Aftercare and Derm Shield Aftercare.

Please read over the aftercare instructions and feel free to contact me with aftercare questions.

More advice, Tips, and Tricks for Aftercare:

  • Peeling and flaking is totally normal. Tattoos heal similar to a sunburn. Redness and soreness will fade as the tattoo heals.

  • Do NOT soak the tattoo in water - so no pools, lakes, baths, or hot tubs while healing. Also, do not clean your tattoo in public bathrooms/sinks/kitchens due to the high germ exposure risk.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure while healing a tattoo. It will burn and hinder proper healing. After the tattoo is healed, always apply sunscreen to protect and preserve your tattoo before exposing it to the sun. Excess sun or sunburns can cause premature fading.

  • Keep your new tattoo away from pets, children, gyms, floors, and shared equipment until fully healed. This will help prevent other sources of bacteria coming into contact with your new tattoo.

  • Likewise, if you can’t wait til your tattoo is fully healed to workout, please switch to lower intensity workouts during healing. And if you do workout, be sure to shower and clean/moisturize your tattoo immediately afterwards.

  • Friends trying to “help” you with their tattoo advice? Don’t listen to them... There’s a lot of outdated information out there that people still swear by and I can’t guarantee their advice is any good. If you have questions about aftercare or need help, please follow up with me and I’m happy to help and advise.
